Gamewatch: Pierce v Asagoe
All the action as Mary Pierce beats Japan's Shinobu Asagoe in the third round of the US Open.

Second set

Pierce 6-4 6-1 Asagoe
Pierce wraps up victory easily, going 40-0 up and securing victory with a neat serve and volley to move into the fourth round.

Pierce 6-4 5-1 Asagoe
Asagoe is struggling to respond to Pierce and she is down three break point almost straight away. Although she saves one, a powerful Pierce crosscourt shot gives the Frenchwoman the game and inches her closer to victory.

Pierce 6-4 4-1 Asagoe
After looking in control, Pierce serves two double faults in the game and Asagoe has break points on three occasions before a backhand volley finally gives Pierce the advantage and Asagoe goes long on the next point and Pierce can breathe a sigh of relief.

Pierce 6-4 3-1 Asagoe
Pierce's attacking play pays dividends and a forehand from Asagoe that goes just past the baseline gives her a well-deserved break.

Pierce 6-4 2-1 Asagoe
A double fault and an unforced error put Pierce under pressure straight away but she responds well with an ace and some aggressive groundstrokes. But she has to save one break point before smashing the ball away to go back into the lead.

Pierce 6-4 1-1 Asagoe
Asagoe gets back on track after seeing the opening set slip away and secures the game after a wild forehand by Pierce.

Pierce 6-4 1-0 Asagoe
After some excellent play in the last game, Pierce struggles again but two good serves in a row from 30-30 gives her the opening game.

First set

Pierce 6-4 Asagoe
Pierce plays in some good aggressive points from the start of the game and when the under-pressure Asagoe nets an attempted pass at 0-40, Pierce takes the set.

Pierce 5-4 Asagoe
Pierce holds to love, thanks to a lucky net cord and a wild forehand by Asagoe which goes well out.

Pierce 4-4 Asagoe
Asagoe moves level once again with a comfortable hold as she makes Pierce move around the court.

Pierce 4-3 Asagoe
Pierce starts to play some solid tennis again and manages to hold comfortably, not giving Asagoe a chance to break.

Pierce 3-3 Asagoe
After appearing to be in control of the game, Pierce lets a chance to stretch her advantage slip with three quick errors in a row.

Pierce 3-2 Asagoe
Pierce is in control of the rallies but she is made work by Asagoe who chases the ball time after time. However Pierce still manages to hold to 15.

Pierce 2-2 Asagoe
Some confident play by Asagoe but Pierce responds well to get a couple of break points which Asagoe saves and a misplaced drop shot allows Asagoe draw level.

Pierce 2-1 Asagoe
Again the French woman has to save break points but after going from 15-40, she gets to deuce and then makes no mistake with a strong serve and then a cross-court shot which gives Asagoe no chance.

Pierce 1-1 Asagoe
Pierce breaks back straight away when Asagoe nets a backhand on a second break point.

Pierce 0-1 Asagoe
Pierce, serving first, makes a slow start and goes 15-40 down early on. Although she manages to save one break point, Asagoe converts the second to claim an early advantage.
