In what many will regard as the twilight of her career, Chanda Rubin can hardly be described as a prospect for the future.
But after overcoming a series of career-threatening injuries, the 27-year-old looks like making up for lost time in 2003.
This year she bounced back into the top 10 for the first time since 1996 after reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells and the last four in Miami.
An even more promising indication of her resurgence came in May when she won the Spanish Open in Madrid - a week before the French Open.
It was her first title of the season and she soon picked up a second on the grass of Eastbourne.
The hard-hitting American, who beat Serena Williams last season, has been suffering with tendonitis in her shoulder and she has been unable to play any warm-ups for the US Open.
