Serena powers her way to her first match point, but Venus bravely saves it with an incredible second-serve ace. Serena 6-4 5-3 Venus
Serena demonstrates her intimate knowledge of her opponent's game by cleverly wrong-footing Venus after a brutal rally. She delivers an ace to bring up game point and holds to 15.

Venus puts herself back in the hunt with a more confident service game. She takes some pace off her first serve in order to hit the mark and Serena is unable to respond.

Serena 6-4 3-1 Venus
Serena holds with ease, keeping her focus and not allowing Venus a chance to break.

Serena 6-4 2-1 Venus
A familiar tale for Venus who delivers two further double faults and sees a forehand fly wide to fall break point down. She saves the that one but another error gives Serena a second bite of the cherry and Venus' ninth double fault puts her sister in complete command of the match.

Serena 6-4 1-1 Venus
Serena holds serve to love as Venus looks increasingly desperate. The older sister makes another forehand error to make it easy for Serena.

Serena 6-4 0-1 Venus
Venus makes a good start but her first-serve percentage remains a concern against an opponent who is returning so strongly.

Serena 6-4 Venus
A topspin angled forehand brings up three set points for Serena and she fires an ace on the first to take a one-set lead.

Serena 5-4 Venus
Venus races into a 30-0 lead but two errors along with a double fault leave her facing another break point. Serena looks out of the point when Venus approaches a short ball, but the second seed smashes her forehand wide and Serena will serve for the set.

Serena 4-4 Venus
Serena allows her focus to slip as she continues to struggle to find consistency on her first serve. She saves one break point but a stunning return from Venus forces the error from the top seed.

Serena 4-3 Venus
Venus delivers two consecutive double faults to slump to 15-40 and Serena finally converts her ninth break point with a flashing forehand return.

Serena 3-3 Venus
Serena finds herself in trouble for the first time at 15-30 but some typically fierce hitting saves her and Venus fires two forehands wide to concede the game.

Serena 2-3 Venus
Venus falls to 15-40 but responds brilliantly by hitting two clean winners off both flanks. After a dubious line call, she survives a seventh break point of the match with a powerful serve and goes on to hold.

Serena 2-2 Venus
Serena holds serve with ease, the final point the highlight of the match so far. Venus has her sister on the run but as Venus appraoches the net, Serena puts up a well-disguised lob and though Venus reaches it she cannot keep it under control.

Serena 1-2 Venus
Venus races into a 40-0 lead but allows Serena back in by missing two first serves. But the second seed closes the door with an unreturnable first delivery.

Serena 1-1 Venus
In a highly competitive opening, both sisters are hitting some impressive winners. An easy smash clinches the game for Serena.

Serena 0-1 Venus
Venus begins the match on a disappointing note with a double fault and two forehand errors in her opening service game. But the older sister saves the first break point with a delicate drop volley and two more with vicious first serves. Another double fault brings up a fourth break opportunity for Serena but Venus again responds with an aggressive first serve and she does not look back.
