France's number two player is still struggling to match his achievements of 2001 when he beat compatriot Sebastien Grosjean to reach the Australian Open final.
The 25-year-old was dogged by injury last year and was forced to miss his country's appearance in the Davis Cup final after playing a key role in getting them there.
Clement returned to the tour in March this year but has been unable to find his best form.
In nine events, he has failed to get beyond the second round - although he registered an impressive win over Fernando Gonzalez in Monte Carlo and took Lleyton Hewitt to three sets in Hamburg.
Clement's game relies on his speed around the court and accurate groundstrokes - but it will be a major surprise if he can prosper on clay rather than his favoured hard courts.
