5. Justine Henin
Her first Grand Slam semi-final came at Roland Garros last year, and she reached the same stage in the doubles. Will be keen to make up for the disappointment of her singles exit however, as she lost out to compatriot Kim Clijsters after holding a 6-2 4-2 40-15 lead. 2001 got better as she became the first Belgian man or woman to reach the final at Wimbledon, losing to Venus Williams in three sets. Henin has kept her form so far in 2002, reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open and reaching three finals on the WTA Tour - the Gold Coast, Antwerp and Amelia Island events. She lost those to Venus but did not have to wait long for a big breakthrough. In May she clinched her first major title - beating Serena Williams in the final in Berlin - and will hope a first Grand Slam is not far away.
