All the action as it happened as 10th seed Mark Philippoussis beats Fabrice Santoro in the second round of the Australian Open.

Philippoussis closes out the match confidently, holding to love, much to the joy of the crowd, to move into the next round

A lovely forehand gives Philippoussis a break point and he moves to one game of victory thanks to another wayward Santoro shot.

Philippoussis makes no mistake on his own serve with some strong serving and is helped by Santoro's failed drop shot on game point.

After losing his serve in the last game, Philippoussis recovers and gets two break-back points with another rasping forehand clinching the game.

Philippoussis is again exerting his control on the game, getting to 40-0 and although he loses the next point with a sloppy shot, he soon wraps up the game to move further in front.

Philippoussis has his opponent on the run, setting up break point with an amazing cross-court backhand return but he cannot convert this one. He soon gets a second chance and makes no mistake with a rasping forehand for an early advantage. Santoro is also warned after arguing with the umpire over a foot fault call.

Third set

Santoro 4-6 Philippoussis

Philippoussis benefits from a line call to make it 30-15 and sends down two aces in a row to give him the set and put him in control of the game.

Santoro 4-5 Philippoussis

A couple of big forehands by Philippoussis give him a good start and a neat volley puts him within reach of the set but Santoro battles hard to stay in the game with the Australian looking a little casual. Santoro's cheeky drop shot means Philipoussis will have to serve for the set.

Santoro 3-5 Philippoussis

Philippoussis puts in his first love service game of the match and Santoro is not given a chance to get into the game.

Santoro 3-4 Philippoussis

Santoro serves two aces in a row to close out the game but Philippoussis is still looking good.

Santoro 2-4 Philippoussis

The errors have not disappeared from Philippoussis' game but tiredness seems to be affecting Santoro more and he nets a forehand to take another game.

Santoro 2-3 Philippoussis

Santoro makes a crucial unforced error at 30-all but then recovers to ace the next point. But Philippoussis gets another and gets his reward when Santoro sends a backhand wide.

Santoro 2-2 Philippoussis

Philippoussis quickly gets to 40-0 but although Santoro wins the next two to give the Australian a scare, Philippoussis recovers with a cross-court winner.

For the first time in the match the brute strength of the Philippoussis game is taking over and Santoro is sent scurrying around behind the baseline. But the Frenchman is persistent and saves two break points before taking the game.

Santoro 1-1 Philippoussis

The crowd is getting behind the home man now and it seems to be having a positive effect as Philippoussis ups the power on serve to level.

Santoro 1-0 Philippoussis

Philippoussis fails to make much impression in the first game of set three, but does manage to rile the Frenchman by firing one stinging forehand straight at him. However, Santoro recovers his composure to hold.

Second set

Santoro 3-6 Philippoussis

Philippoussis starts the game well with an ace - his fastest serve of the match and a solid volley then gives him three set points. He squanders the first two, the second with an easy-looking valley but then aces on the third one.

Santoro 3-5 Philippoussis

Santoro serves to stay in the set and at 30-all sends down an ace but on the next point, his forehand is long and it goes to deuce but the Frenchman wins the next two points to leave him in with a chance.

Santoro 2-5 Philippoussis

Santoro is not giving up on the set and gets to 30-all but Philippoussis hits a clean backhand winner and then serves another ace.

Santoro 2-4 Philippoussis

Philippoussis gives hope by getting to 15-30 and then Santoro's two-handed backhand goes wide for two break points. The Frenchman redeems the situation by saving both and then a Philippoussis error clinches it.

Santoro 1-4 Philippoussis

Philippoussis is starting to find his range and get into the set and the match and he exerts his superiority to serve an ace to win the game.

Santoro 1-3 Philippoussis

Santoro easily gets to 30-0 but Philippoussis sends a couple of backhands down the line on consecutive points to get back into the game. Santoro nets to give the Australian a chance of a break but he then rescues it with a well-placed volley. Santoro nets again and a double fault gives Philippoussis the break.

Santoro 1-2 Philippoussis

Philippoussis puts in one of his better games of the match with some good first serves leaving him in a stronger position and he has no difficulty holding serve.

Santoro 1-1 Philippoussis

Philippoussis gives himself some hope on the Santoro serve when he gets to 15-30 but eventually a neat forehand by Santoro which beats Philippoussis levels the set.

Santoro 0-1 Philippoussis

Philippoussis needs a much more consistent display in the second set but he has to work very hard before a big serve which Santoro cannot do anything with wins him the game.

First set

Santoro 6-4 Philippoussis

Serving for the set, Santoro is well in control and he has no problem getting three set points. Philippoussis then sends a backhand long to hand the Frenchman the set.

Santoro 5-4 Philippoussis

Philippoussis seems a bit disgrunted but he still puts in a good backhand before the Frenchman capitalises again to earn a break point. The Australian sends down a second serve and his forehand is not good enough to save the break.

Santoro 4-4 Philippoussis

Philippoussis misses a good chance to pass Santoro when the Frenchman has game point and a tie-break seems ever closer.

Santoro 3-4 Philippoussis

At 30-love, Philippoussis nets twice in a row but a point winning backhand volley sets up game point and then Santoro nets a forehand.

Santoro 3-3 Philippoussis

A solid service game by Santoro who is not troubled too much by Philippoussis as he levels the match once again.

Santoro 2-3 Philippoussis

A couple of forehand errors by Philippoussis gives Santoro a break point at 30-40 but the Australian sends down a big second serve which Santoro cannot return. A poor backhand sets up another break point and Philippoussis saves it with a stinging forehand down the line but he has to work hard before his fifth ace gives him the game.

Santoro 2-2 Philippoussis

Santoro starts the game well with a service winner and then another well-placed lob but Philippoussis hits back and brings it to deuce with a punched forehand before earning a break point. Santoro puts away a volley to save it and then wins the next two points to level it.

Santoro 1-2 Philippoussis

Santoro gets a lucky net cord early on but the next point sees Philippoussis serve his first ace and the Australian uses his power to win the game.

Santoro 1-1 Philippoussis

Santoro sends down an ace but a couple of points later, Philippoussis takes it to 30-all with a well-placed lob but Santoro goes on to hold and win the game.

Santoro 0-1 Philippoussis

Philippoussis serves in the opening game and despite serving a double fault at 40-30, a neat volley at advantage point puts the Australian on the scoreboard.
