Zuluaga is seeded for the first time in a Grand Slam tournament after bouncing back into the top 50 last year for the first time since 2000.

The Colombian was sidelined for most of 2001 after twice undergoing surgery on her shoulder, and she spent much of 2002 attempting to qualify for WTA tournaments.

However, having received a wildcard for her home event in Bogota, she promptly won the title for the second time in four years - becoming the lowest ranked player that year to lift a trophy.

She defended her title this year, the highlight of a solid season.

She also reached the third round of the German Open and the French Open on her preferred claycourts.

Zuluaga has only one win to her name at Melbourne Park - four years ago.
