The headline-writers dream, Fish last year emerged from the also-rans to become America's number three, behind Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.
World ranking: 21
Australian Open best:
3rd round (2003)
2003: 3rd round
2002: 2nd round
The 22-year-old began a dream season by reaching the final in Delray Beach, and followed it with another on the grass at Nottingham.
He was also the only player to take a set off Roger Federer at Wimbledon when the Swiss beat him in the third round.
Better was to follow when he made the final in the Cincinnati Masters, but the trophy was to elude him once again as he lost narrowly to close friend Roddick.
However, he finally notched up the first title win of his career in Stockholm at the end of the season - raising expectations for 2004.
In two visits to the Australian Open, Fish has reached the second round and third round and with his new-found confidence, especially on hard courts, he should be confident of bettering that this year.
