6. Tim Henman
In his six previous outings Henman has never prospered at the Australian Open. In fact, his record at Grand Slam events outside of Wimbledon is distinctly unspectacular for a man of his capabilities and ranking. However, the British number one has started the year in style, winning his ninth tour title at the Australian Hardcourt Championships. It is the perfect preparation as Henman aims to prove that he has the necessary weapons to win the Grand Slam title that some observers feel is beyond him. During the past 25 years, only three first-time Grand Slam champions have been older than 27-year-old Henman. His serve and forehand can be erratic and he is prone to lapses in concentration, but on his day he remains more than a match for the very best.
