4. Yevgeny Kafelnikov

DOB: 18.02.1974
Nationality: Russian
World Ranking: 4
Australian Open record:
2001 :: quarter-final
2000 :: runner-up
1999 :: winner
1998 :: n/a
1997 :: n/a

Kafelnikov won the second of his two Grand Slam titles in Australia and also won a gold medal down under at the Sydney Olympics.

The Russian also won his first ATP Tour title in Adelaide in 1994 - Australia, and their hard rubberised courts, is his kind of place.

Six years after that first title Kafelnikov now has 24 singles titles to his name.

He courts controversy by claiming that tennis players do not get paid enough, but is arguably one of the few players on the circuit who deserves a better reward for his efforts.

While many of the game's top players turn their back on doubles, Kafelnikov is a keen team player as well with 24 more titles to his name.

The team ethic runs through his game and the Russian's burning ambition is to help his country win their first ever Davis Cup final.
