15. Alexandra Stevenson

DOB: 15.12.1980
Nationality: American
World Ranking: 18
Australian Open record:
2002 :: first round
2001 :: second round
2000 :: first round
1999 :: n/a
1998 :: n/a

It may have taken three years but Stevenson is finally beginning to fulfil the vast potential she demonstrated in reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals in 1999.

However, the enigmatic 22-year-old remains infuriatingly inconsistent.

She began 2002 in sparkling form reaching the final of the Memphis tour event, but then failed to win a single Grand Slam match all year.

She did end the season on a high note, though, by beating Daniela Hantuchova and Jennifer Capriati on her way to the final in Linz.

The American, whose controversial mother has received as much attention as Alexandra in recent years, will look for a more consistent 2003.

Her first target will be going beyond the second round of the Australian Open for the first time in her career.
