Eight great wins for Agassi
Andre Agassi wins the 2003 Australian Open
Agassi was supreme in his latest Grand Slam triumph
Andre Agassi's fourth Australian Open crown gave him his eighth Grand Slam title over a period spanning 11 years.

1992 Wimbledon bt Goran Ivanisevic

Having lost the first three Grand Slam finals of his career, critics had begun to doubt the flamboyant Las Vegan's ability to sustain a high level for seven matches.

He silenced them in fine style - beating former champions Boris Becker and John McEnroe before keeping his nerve in a thrilling five-set final against Ivanisevic on his least favourite surface.

1994 US Open bt Michael Stich

It took over two years before Agassi clinched his second major, this time in his home country.

The crowd favourite survived a tricky fourth-round encounter with Michael Chang but it was plain sailing from then on as he eased to the title.

1995 Australian Open bt Pete Sampras

The second of a series of Grand Slam finals between the legendary pair, and the only one in which Agassi has triumphed.

The turning point was the third set tiebreak in which Agassi saved two set points before edging it 8-6.

1999 French Open bt Andrei Medvedev

Up against underdog Medvedev, Agassi appeared to have succumbed to the pressure of bidding for the only Grand Slam title to elude him.

He dropped the first two sets 6-1 6-2 but roared back to take the next three and become the first man since Rod Laver to collect a full set of majors.

His achievement was all the more impressive given that just two years earlier he had looked a spent force after seeing his world ranking slump to 141.

1999 US Open bt Todd Martin

With Sampras out through injury, Agassi faced another powerful serve-volleyer in the final and proceeded to display exactly why he will be remembered as the best returner the game has seen.

Agassi fell behind two sets to one but upped the tempo on his already ferocious returning to break Martin's resistance.

Incredibly, the champion did not lose his serve once in the final.

2000 Australian Open bt Yevgeny Kafelnikov

There is no question that Agassi's sixth Grand Slam title was well deserved.

He took out the dangerous Mark Philippoussis in the fourth round before getting the better of an epic against Sampras in the semis - a match hailed as one of the best ever.

2001 Australian Open bt Arnaud Clement

Once again Agassi's greatest match win came in the quarters against home favourite Patrick Rafter, overturning a two sets to one deficit to reach the final.

Clement was no match for Agassi and the Frenchman later described the champion as "two or three levels higher".

2003 Australian Open bt Rainer Schuettler

Agassi rewrote the history books once again with a quickfire win over Schuettler, equalling the most one-sided in the event's 98-year history.

The win gave him a record 21 consecutive match wins in Melbourne - having missed the 2002 event with a wrist injury.

He also became the oldest player since 1972 to win a Grand Slam title, 11 years after his first, and afterwards said he had been "hitting the ball better than I ever have".
