Juan Martin del Potro wins Delray Beach title

Del Potro has now won eight ATP titles in his career

Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro won his first title since the 2009 US Open as he saw off Janko Tipsarevic in Delray Beach, Florida.

The former world number four, who played only three tournaments in 2010 because of a serious wrist injury, won 6-4 6-4 against Serbia's Tipsarevic.

Del Potro only made the Delray draw as a wildcard and was ranked as low as 484 only two weeks ago.

But successive semi-finals and a title will take him back inside the top 100.

"I feel completely tired but it's amazing for me, this comeback," said Del Potro.

"I'm trying to improve my game day by day. Today Janko played better than me I think, but I had a little luck in the important moments.

"I was playing at night every match and today was a little bit hot for me. I just tried to focus on my serve, especially on my break points."

Del Potro managed to save 10 of the 11 break points he faced before coming through in one hour and 54 minutes.

His victory followed semi-final appearances in the preceding tournaments in San Jose and Memphis.
