Clijsters is on course for her second Paris Open title

New world number one Kim Clijsters is through to the final of the Paris Open after beating third seed Kaia Kanepi 6-1 7-5.

Clijsters, 27, was short of her best but Estonian Kanepi did little to tax the Australian and US Open champion.

The Belgian will now play Czech Petra Kvitova on Sunday.

In the other semi-final, world number 18 and fourth seed Kvitova gave an impressive display to beat American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-2 6-0.

"I played aggressive, went for the line and tried to make her move," Clijsters said.

Clijsters, who recently regained the world number one spot from Dane Caroline Wozniacki, is on course for her second Paris Open title.

Clijsters has held the top spot three times before - twice in 2003 and once in 2006 before retiring in 2007 to have a child - only to make a stunning return.

The Belgian won the 2009 US Open, retaining the title last year and then adding the Australian Open this year.
