Rae still focused on singles career

Nottingham's Jocelyn Rae says she is looking forward to her third appearance in the ladies' doubles at Wimbledon but is still focused on her singles career.

The 19-year-old failed to make the main singles draw after losing to Romania's Monica Niculescu in the qualifiers.

"I've got a good opportunity playing doubles," she told BBC Sport.

"I'm still concentrating on the singles but at the moment my doubles ranking is higher so you get more opportunities. I need to improve my singles ranking."

Rae will partner Guernsey's Heather Watson in the ladies' doubles, with their match against Australian pair Casey Dellacqua and Alicia Molik scheduled for Wednesday.

She has appeared in the doubles event twice before having reached the second round last year when partnering fellow Brit Melanie South.

But Rae, who played in her last Junior Wimbledon in 2009, believes she can still improve as a singles player and is not too disappointed about missing out on the main draw this year.

"I'm pleased I got through pre-qualifying and it was the first year I got through.

"I had a tough draw against Monica Niculescu [in the first qualifying round] but I thought I played well."
