Marat Safin won an easy victory over qualifier Harel Levy in the final of the Toronto Masters to collect his third title of the season.

Safin was always in control in a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Levy who tried hard but made too many errors.

The win moves Safin up to fourth in the ATP Champions Race.

The match was interrupted by rain but the stoppages were short and the players stayed on the court.

Levy broke Safin's serve in the opening game but Safin then only conceded four points in his next seven service games until he went 0-40 down as he served for the match.

But Safin came through to clinch a 54-minute victory.

"I have more experience than him," stated the young Russian after his win.

"He got a little bit nervous and didn't know what to do or where to go. It was nothing else because he can play unbelievable tennis.

"But in the final it's a little bit tough," he added.

Levy was the first Israeli to reach an ATP Tour final since Amos Mansdorf in 1994 and did so without facing a seeded player.

"I tried to change my game a couple of times during the match and maybe come in behind my serve, but he had an answer to everything," said Levy.

"He's a very strong player and he hits the ball very hard, and he's difficult to play."
