Former Wimbledon champion Michael Stich believes Andy Murray must improve his game further in order to lift the title at SW19 this summer.

Murray is currently ranked a career best world number three and has just reached the French Open quarter-finals.

"I think he is still missing a tiny little bit to go all the way," the 1991 winner told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"There's always a big surprise. There's a lot of pressure, let's see how he can deal with it."

Stich will be playing at the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament for the first time this summer.

The 40-year-old German will play in the Legends Tournament, which includes Barry Cowan, Mansour Bahrami and Ile Nastase. The main field this year includes Robin Soderling and Michelle Larcher De Brito.

Stich says his interest in playing at the tournament, which has replaced Nottingham in the calendar, was sparked by talking to his fellow tennis professionals.

"I know it's been held for many years now because Behrami and the guys have played in the past. I was asked to play this year and I happily accepted," he said.

"They (former players) said it is a good event so there we are, I'm coming and checking it out."

The tournament takes place in the city's Calderstones Park from 17 to 21 June.
