Lleyton Hewitt won his first title in more than two years when he defeated Wayne Odesnik 6-2 7-5 at the US Men's Clay Court Championships on Sunday.

The Australian, 28, claimed his 27th career title and only second on clay with victory in Houston.

"It feels great," said the former world number one. "It's always nice to get back in the winner's circle.

"This is what the hard work is for, to play weeks like this and to have this kind of feeling at the end of them."

In Casablanca, former world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero ended his five-year wait for a tournament win with victory at the Grand Prix Hassan II.

The unseeded Spaniard, who won the French Open in 2003, beat fifth seed Florent Serra 6-4 7-5 for the 12th singles title win of his career.

Ferrero broke Serra six times on his way to his first win since the Madrid Masters in October 2003.

"This is a special tournament for me," said Ferrero, who made his ATP debut in Casablanca as a 19-year-old.

"Ten years ago I played my first ATP World Tour tournament here and now I'm back winning the title. I'm very happy, it was a great week for me."

The victory should be some solace to Ferrero after his world ranking of 115 deprived him of a shot at a third Monte Carlo Masters next week.
