Jelena Dokic
Dokic won her first Grand Slam match for five years

"I played with a huge pressure on my shoulders. I kind of just cracked by the time I was 19."
Jelena Dokic explains the turmoil she went through in the early part of her career.

"I still feel like I've lost them. I will try my best to do what I can to patch up my things with my brother and my mom. I'm trying to do that.... it will be difficult."
Dokic on her current relationship with her family.

"I don't want to get stressed. I don't want to plan anything. I want to play and be relaxed. At least I want to enjoy it. I don't want to suffer anymore. No expectation. No stress. No drama. Just play, enjoy. Whatever comes, it's great. If it doesn't, it doesn't."
Marat Safin promises a more relaxed approach in the future.

"It's not a walk in the park."
Safin on his climbing trip to the Himalayas in 2007.

"Today it was so hot, my feet were really burning. If I'm going to go very far I have to deal with it."
Jelena Jankovic on the soaring temperatures in Melbourne.

"The sun, the sun, it's just very strong - just even being out there, you cannot breathe."
Marcos Baghdatis also feels the effects of the Melbourne sun.

"The sun's really bad here. You can't see your ball toss when you're throwing it."
Australian 16-year-old Bernard Tomic, who wore sunglasses during his match.

"It's a dream come true to win a first round in my first Grand Slam. I'm just thrilled that I could pull off a win today. With the crowd behind me, it was an unbelievable experience."
Despite the sun, Tomic becomes the youngest man to win a round at the Aussie Open, beating Todd Woodbridge's record.

"I think it's a nice dress. I like the green, it's bright and I think it looks feminine. The whole outfit is kind of coordinated - I have white and green shoes, my little wristband and my dress.
Jelena Jankovic talks tennis fashion.

"I'm 26 so I'm not quite over the hill."
Old Man Roddick insists he still has a Grand Slam in him.

"I don't expect myself to step on the court and play perfect tennis from very first moment."
Ana Ivanovic after a less-than-perfect performance in her opening match.

"I'm very irregular. Sometimes I'm playing very well, sometimes I'm playing very badly, so it's confidence for me over the last two months. In the important moments I need to kill off the other person."
Refreshing honesty from David Ferrer.

"Now women's tennis is more powerful. (It is also) more speedy and I must always think about reaction more quickly."
Kimiko Date Krumm on returning to Grand Slam action for the first time in 13 years at the age of 38.

"My husband push me a lot, say 'you can go back on the tour'. So I play exhibition match, he doesn't like just exhibition match. Exhibition match is exhibition match, not serious. So always he said to me, 'You must go back'."
Date Krumm on the driving force behind her comeback after retiring in 1996.
