Davenport out of Australian Open

Lindsay Davenport
Davenport has won three Grand Slam titles in her career

Former Australian Open champion Lindsay Davenport has withdrawn from next year's tournament because she is pregnant with her second child.

The 32-year-old American has not played since August's US Open but was on the entry list for Melbourne in January.

"This unexpected but exciting surprise means I will be putting tennis on hold for the foreseeable future," she said.

Davenport quit tennis in 2006 and 2007 to start her family but won four events after returning in September 2007.

The three-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world number one, was Australian Open champion in 2000.
