1546: Things are going to be a lot tougher for the British number one in round three, however, as he will be up against Croatian teenager Marin Cilic. Still, after a three-week break from competitive action, Murray must have been pleased with the level of his play today - he was right on his game.

That's it from me folks. Thanks for your company this afternoon - I'm just sorry I wasn't with you for longer!

1544: Job done for Murray then and, let's face it, he was going to make short work of Bolelli even before the Italian retired hurt.

"Hmm, 'shoulder injury' eh? Not 'It's not fair, I'm taking my ball and going home'?"

SECOND SET

Murray 6-0 2-1 Bolelli
It's all over folks - a little quicker than expected too! Bolelli picked up a bit of a shoulder injury as he despatched that smash to hold at 0-1, and he has decided he cannot continue. At least he managed to get on the scoreboard before he quit...

Murray 6-0 2-1 Bolelli
Blimey, all of a sudden Bolelli is on a roll. Well, sort of. He does pick up two more points on the Murray serve which is a big achievement for him but breaking back is a bridge to far - Murray is simply serving too well to have any serious trouble and more aces mean he holds out.

Murray 6-0 1-1 Bolelli
Credit to Bolelli, he is still trying to find a way past the Murray armour, and he finally gets his reward, fighting back from 30-40 to get his first game on the board after following up a deep forehand drive to put away an overhead with, dare I say it, a bit of a flourish. No double-bagel here!

Murray 6-0 1-0 Bolelli
Bolelli only picked up one point on the Murray serve in the first set and he has matched that tally already in the second - the Scot, for once, sending one of those thumping forehands just long. Murray still cleans up easily enough, however, with his fourth ace of the match helping him hold.

"Bolelli?! Doesn't he make olive oil or something? I'm sure Murray will slip past no problem."

FIRST SET

Murray 6-0 Bolelli
To be honest, a trip to the dentist (see 1444) would probably be a more enjoyable afternoon for Bolelli than this. He is getting taken apart by Murray, who wraps up this first set in less than half an hour. No sweat for the Scot so far.

"A bit too one-sided at present to be of much interest as a contest, but good to see Murray playing so well."

Murray 5-0 Bolelli
Well, Bolelli wins a point on the Murray serve, which is more than he managed on his first two attempts. I'm trying to be positive for the Italian but it's tricky at the moment - Murray has his number and wants to get this over with as quickly as possible, and the man from Bologna is heading for a first-set bagel here...

Murray 4-0 Bolelli
Bolelli's turn to mix things up, throwing in a couple of chopped forehands to try to disrupt Murray's rhythm. The Italian is still making life difficult for himself with his unforced errors, however, and despite leading 40-30 he then has to save three more break-points, before Murray breaks him again on his fourth. This one is not going to last long by the looks of things.

"Murray is nearly impossible to break through at the back of the court today. As long as he keeps this standard up he'll be done in under an hour."

Murray 3-0 Bolelli
Murray's serve has already found its groove and he throws in his first drop-shot of the match here too as he holds with ease.

Murray 2-0 Bolelli
A decent start on serve for Bolelli, who has Murray scampering around the back of the court with some crisp forehand drives, but he is making a few mistakes too and the British number one gets to deuce by doing little more than getting the ball back. Murray steps in to attack with a two-handed backhand to earn his first break-point and, although a big serve rescues the Italian, another fierce return brings the Scot back to advantage and, this time, his resilience forces a mistake by Bolelli when the point should really be his. All going to plan so far.

Murray 1-0 Bolelli
A rock-solid start by Murray who throws in a cracking passing shot and an ace as he holds to love. Bolelli is a lucky loser by the way - he only came into the draw when Marat Safin pulled out of the tournament with a shoulder injury.

1450: We're up and running. Murray to serve first.

1449: It's hardly a sell-out at the Madrid Arena, judging by the row of empty seats. This is the last year the tournament will be played here on a hard indoor court by the way - from 2009 it will be played in May, not October, and on clay at a new venue...the Caja Magica (or Magic Box to you and me).

1447: The players are out on court in Madrid and warming up. Whoever wins this one will face Croatia's Marin Cilic in the next round, as he has just beaten Spain's Fernando Verdasco.

1444: I don't know much about Bolelli, to be honest, but he has had a tidy year, continuing the progress that saw him break into the top 100 for the first time in 2007. He is 23, born in Bologna, and ranked 43rd in the world. Oh, and his Dad is a dentist. Open wide, Andy.

1440: Yes, fresh from his impressive, yet ultimately futile, efforts at Wimbledon in Great Britain's Davis Cup defeat by Austria, Andy Murray is back in action on the ATP Tour. He is up against Italy's Simone Bolelli in Madrid.

1438: It's Murray time...
