SECOND SET:

2134: That was - strange. Hold tight for the second semi which is coming up soon, I'm backing Safina and Serena to offer up something a bit better.

Dementieva 4-6 Jankovic
Dementieva goes long with a backhand on the first point and the danger sign is flashing. It goes berserk when she double faults for 0-30, and a forehand in the net hands Jankovic three match points. Dementieva chooses this moment to smack a big serve and Jankovic inexplicably starts complaining that she wasn't ready. Odd. Fortunately for her, Dementieva smacks a forehand miles long and Jankovic is into her first Grand Slam final.

Dementieva 4-5 Jankovic
Blimey, a love service game from Jankovic puts the pressure straight back on Dementieva. Fortunately the Russian can rely on her trusty serve to stay alive. Oh dear.

Dementieva 4-5 Jankovic
At 30-0, Dementieva plays a drop shot that Phil Studd on 5 Live Sports Extra describes as "possibly the worst shot in the history of tennis". Harsh, but fair. Dementieva gathers herself sufficiently to find a winner on game point.

Dementieva 3-4 Jankovic
Dementieva smacks a forehand winner to earn another break point but cannot convert. At deuce, she moves forward and sticks away a smash to get a second chance but Jankovic fires a brilliant backhand winner and goes on to grab what feels like a vital hold.

2116: "I don't think it is appalling tennis. There are some really bad errors out there but there are also some great rallies in difficult conditions."
From kuzfan on 606

Dementieva 3-3 Jankovic
Interesting point at 0-15 when Jankovic stops a lengthy rally to make a Hawkeye challenge on the baseline and gets it right - cue much smiling before shaking her head towards the errant line judge. Dementieva plays a winner on the next point and Jankovic applauds her shot - you certainly get your money's worth with Jelena, although not sure it says much for her concentration. Dementieva sprays a forehand pass wide at deuce and a backhand long on break point - it's another break.

Dementieva 3-2 Jankovic
She may not be the most aggressive player in the world but she certainly gets everything back, does Jankovic. Another superb display of scrambling sees her end with her now traditional splits. She's not smiling after double-faulting on the following point, however, and she gives up another break when netting a forehand at break-point down.

Dementieva 2-2 Jankovic
"Oh my Goooooooooddddddd!!!" screams Jankovic after she shanks a forehand into the stands at 30-30. She recovers well with a backhand winner down the line and at deuce, Dementieva plays the kind of volley you might see down the park this weekend. She follows up with a double fault and that game was a shocker for the Russian.

Dementieva 2-1 Jankovic
Dementieva gets the first break of the second set when Jankovic double faults and this match remains as impossible to predict as ever.

Dementieva 1-1 Jankovic
It's a windy day, a huge match, and the pressure is growing - not ideal circumstances for the Dementieva serve, and she double faults early in this game. Jankovic then plays an extraordinary rally of scrambling behind the baseline before putting a forehand long, but Dementieva nets yet another backhand and it's deuce. A couple of huge forehands get the Russian out of trouble and might give her a much-needed boost.

Dementieva 0-1 Jankovic
Jankovic holds to love for the first time today and Dementieva needs to get herself together sharpish - 22 unforced errors is too much and she's lost five games in a row.

FIRST SET:

2047: "That was really bad from Jankovic because it upset the rhythm of Dementieva."
Wendy Turnbull on 5 Live Sports Extra

Dementieva 4-6 Jankovic
It took until the 10th game but we have our first glimpse of the Jankovic splits as she stretches, in vain, to chase down a Dementieva smash. Jankovic still has the upper hand here, cracking a forehand winner before Dementieva double faults.

At 30-30 we get a long, safety-first rally from both players who appear to be taking part in a drill before Dementieva nets a backhand. It's set point, and Jankovic gets a warning after seemingly deliberately stopping Dementieva mid-service action. Naughty. Another long rally, another backhand in the net from Dementieva and Jankovic has got the first set, somehow.

Dementieva 4-5 Jankovic
Well, Dementieva's early promise was misleading, while Jankovic is not exactly on top of her game. At 30-30, Dementieva nets a routine backhand and Jankovic takes the game to go ahead for the first time.

Dementieva 4-4 Jankovic
Dementieva slips to 15-40 but then produces - and this is not something you often get to say about the Russian - a big serve under pressure. Unfortunately for her, she sticks a forehand in the net on the next point and we're all square.

2028: "Whats the latest weather forecast for Murray and Super Saturday? The BBC website looks a little more promising now?"
From Phil - looking forward to cheering on Muzza - via text on 81111

That's the question on everyone's lips - and the general theory is that we might get through the first men's semi but will be struggling after that. It's also expected that Murray and Nadal will be on first, with the first match having been moved forward one hour to 1600 BST.

Dementieva 4-3 Jankovic
Jankovic is in real trouble at 0-30 and Dementieva rather lets her off the hook with a couple of unforced errors, before Jankovic takes the game with a thumping backhand winner.

Dementieva 4-2 Jankovic
Great hitting from both players now, with Jankovic getting a lucky net cord off a forehand volley and Dementieva responding with a highly unexpected drop shot and winning volley.

Dementieva 3-2 Jankovic
Jankovic stays in touch with a solid hold after Dementieva blasts a forehand long, and the blustery wind appears to be causing a few problems for both players at the moment.

Dementieva 3-1 Jankovic
A couple of ugly backhands give Jankovic two breaks points at 15-40, and the Serb absolutely batters away from the baseline before losing the first with a forehand that goes wide.

Dementieva finds herself at the net on the following point and looks extremely vulnerable but Jankovic puts the backhand just wide. Another break point goes begging and Dementieva holds on to her lead, while Jankovic also goes for two very speculative challenges, both of which fail.

Dementieva 2-1 Jankovic
Jankovic gets off the mark, with one delicate drop shot suggesting she is finding her range.

Dementieva 2-0 Jankovic
Dementieva holds with ease as Jankovic completely fails to make any impression. Early days but these are worrying signs for the Serbian.

Dementieva 1-0 Jankovic
An impressive start from Dementieva sees the Russian break straight away. Jankovic struggles for any early rhythm on a surprisingly sunny Arthur Ashe Stadium, bearing in mind the weather forecast. We are assured rain is coming tomorrow.

1949: The world number six and Olympic champion takes on the world number two in the first of the women's semis. This weekend represents a huge opportunity for one of these two to land a first Grand Slam title, and possibly the world number one ranking. The pair have met seven times, with Jankovic leading 4-3 overall and 3-2 on hard courts. It's a tough one to call.
