Andy Murray eased into round three of the Toronto Masters on Wednesday with a rain-delayed 6-4 6-4 win over Sweden's Thomas Johansson.

Murray, the eighth seed, received a bye in the first round to set up his match with Johansson, who he beat 7-6 6-0 in Doha earlier this year.

"I was happy with the way I came back," said Murray afterwards.

"Thomas is tough on hard courts, so I knew I'd have to up my game especially in the second set when I went behind."

He is in action again on Thursday night against Stanislas Wawrinka, and after that he has a doubles match with brother Jamie, against second seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.

The Murray brothers will compete in the Olympics next month, and Andy said he was extremely excited by the challenge.

"I'm looking forward to the Olympics - it's going to be a great experience," he said.

"I like playing indoors, I've won four out of my five tournaments indoors."

Fifth seed David Ferrer joined Murray in round three of the singles after a 6-4 6-4 win over Robby Ginepri, and Marin Cilic also advanced after he defeated 12th seed Tommy Robredo 6-3 6-4.

Marat Safin was a winner in his first round match against Sam Querrey, 6-3 6-3.
