Former champion Vera Zvonareva will return to Birmingham next month to compete in the DFS Classic.

The 23-year-old Russian won the title on her only previous visit to the Edgbaston Priory Club in 2006, when she beat Jamea Jackson in the final.

Tournament director Marjorie Howie said: "Vera has proved over a number of years that she is one of the best players in the world.

"I'm sure she'll be in the running for the title this year."

The world number 13 joins a list of competitors that now includes defending champion Jelena Jankovic and last year's runner-up at Wimbledon, Marion Bartoli.

The tournament takes place between 9-15 June.
