World number five Jelena Jankovic will return to the Edgbaston Priory Club to defend her DFS Classic title in June.
The Serb beat two-time champion Maria Sharapova in three sets in the 2007 final before winning the Wimbledon mixed doubles paired with Jamie Murray.
"It is great news that Jelena is coming back to Birmingham this summer," said tournament director Marjory Howie.
"She's been a real favourite at the DFS Classic since 2004 and has cemented her position as one of the world's best."
Jankovic has made a strong start to 2008 with semi-final appearances at the Australian Open, Dubai and Indian Wells as well as being the runner-up in Miami.
The Edgbaston tournament was one of four titles claimed by Jankovic last year, alongside the WTA Tour events in Auckland, Charleston and Rome.
