Martina Hingis retires for good on 1 November with the bombshell that she tested positive for cocaine at Wimbledon
Her glittering career began at an early age - Hingis won the French Open girls' singles crown aged 12
In 1995, barely 14, she became the youngest player to win a match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament
And in 1997, she was unstoppable - here in Melbourne she shows off the first of five Grand Slam single titles
In June, by now world number one, she beats Jana Novotna in the Wimbledon final despite losing the first set 6-2
And despite home advantage, Venus Williams is swept aside 6-0 6-2 in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows
She added two more Australian Open singles titles and several doubles titles with Russian glamour girl Anna Kournikova
But injuries took their toll, and Hingis retired in 2003 - however, she returned at the start of the 2006 season
Hingis also appeared to have found happiness off the court, becoming engaged to fellow player Radek Stepanek
The engagement did not last, but Hingis won three more titles before injury ended her 2007 season at the China Open
That tournament turned out be her last, and Hingis quits again at the age of 27 - this time under a cloud
