World number 16 Nicole Vaidisova could miss out on the US Open after being forced out of a warm-up tournament in Canada next week.
The 18-year-old has still not recovered from glandular fever, which she has been suffering from since Wimbledon.
Vaidisova impressed at Wimbledon this year, losing in the last eight to Ana Ivanovic but only after having knocked out defending champion Amelie Mauresmo.
The US Open begins on 27 August at Flushing Meadows.
