Top seed Maria Sharapova crashed out of the Istanbul Cup with a straight-sets defeat to unseeded Aravane Rezai.
Sharapova was beaten 6-2 6-4 by her 20-year-old French opponent, who was struggling with a slight leg injury.
"It is the best result of my career - this is the fruit of my work, said Rezai, who is ranked 62 in the world.
Rezai will face another Russian in Saturday's final after Elena Dementieva beat Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko 7-6 6-2 in the other semi-final.
