Yaraslova Shvedova stunned top seed and defending champion Mara Santangelo of Italy to win her first WTA Tour title at the Bangalore Open on Sunday.
The 19-year-old Russian, ranked 143rd in the world, used her big serving to win 6-4 6-4 in 96 minutes.
Shvedova came into the tournament having won just two main draw matches on the WTA Tour.
"I'm so excited, I can't stop shaking," she said. "To win my first WTA Tour title is amazing and such a surprise."
She added: "I kept focusing on the points and played so well and all the balls I hit were going in; everything just worked for me out there.
"I tried not to think about the fact that this was my first final, to keep from being tight or nervous. It worked in the match but now I am in shock."
Santangelo admitted: "I played well to reach the final but she played better than me today."
