Seventh seed Albert Montanes of Spain upset Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez to reach the semi-finals of the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar.
The Spaniard won 6-3 3-6 6-4 and will meet third seed Nicolas Massu in the last four.
Massu advanced when sixth seed Sergio Roitman withdrew after two sets because of an injured right leg.
"I won although I played even worse than in recent days when I had already played pretty bad," said Massu.
Massu had to save seven match points in the second set before Roitman called it a day when he lost the second-set tie-break.
The second semi-final sees Peru's Luis Horna against Argentina's Martin Vassallo Arguello.
Horna defeated Igor Andreev of Russia 6-3 6-3 while Vassallo Arguello got the better of fellow countryman Carlos Berlocq 3-6 6-3 7-5.
