James Auckland's impressive run at the Mumbai Open in India came to an end when he was lost to fourth seed Dmitry Tursunov in Friday's quarter-finals.
Auckland is the current British number 14
The 26-year-old Briton took the first set against the Russian but lost the next two to bow out 6-3 3-6 4-6.
Auckland, ranked 414th in the world, came through qualifying to record his first-ever ATP Tour singles victory.
He beat Germany's Frank Moser in round one before upsetting eighth seed Wesley Moodie from South Africa in round two.
