GAME-BY-GAME UPDATES

By Sophie Brown

Third set:

Murray 6-2 Dolgopolov
Murray goes 40-15 up and clinches victory when Dolgopolov makes another error. John Lloyd's first rubber in charge of Great Britain could not have got off to a better start.

Murray 5-2 Dolgopolov
Another error from the Dolgopolov racquet and Murray has two match points. But the young Ukrainian saves both and goes on to hold, skipping chirpily back to his chair in a manner that doesn't reflect his current position in the match.

Murray 5-1 Dolgopolov
An increasingly confident Murray is getting to the net at every opportunity. He's not letting his foot off the gas though, angrily rebuking himself for netting the ball when he chases down a drop-shot. And he extends his lead in the set - just one game needed now for the British number one.

Murray 4-1 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov looks like he's enjoying himself out there but things are slipping away from him. He saves one break point but on the second, Murray works the point nicely, finishing it off with a volley at the net.

Murray 3-1 Dolgopolov
Murray tears through his service game to edge towards a straight-sets win.

Murray 2-1 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov comes up with a superb forehand pass to save break point - but there is a sense of inevitablity about this match now and Murray eventually forces the break.

Murray 1-1 Dolgopolov
Murray holds to 15. The crowd is quite subdued now, as if they sense the tie is already beyond the Ukraine.

Murray 0-1 Dolgopolov
The Ukrainian makes a good start to the third set with a comfortable hold of serve.

Second set:

Murray 6-4 Dolgopolov
Murray takes the second set with his third set point, blasting a deep forehand down the line.

Murray 5-4 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov has to save a set point, which he does in typically flamboyant style with a cute drop-shot. The 17-year-old holds serve to end Murray's run of five games on the bounce but is still a break down in the second set.

Dolgopolov has got all the ability in the world but seems to be utterly clueless in some his choice of shots.
BBC Sport pundit Andrew Castle

Murray 5-3 Dolgopolov
Murray races through his service game and is looking more and more assured in this match.

Murray 4-3 Dolgopolov
Murray is playing a clever game, just keeping the ball in and waiting for his opponent to make the error. Dolgopolov has an entertaining show-pony style but he lacks match-playing nous and Murray wins his fourth game on the trot.

Murray 3-3 Dolgopolov
Murray levels in the set, clinching the game with a clever lob.

Andy Murray is knuckling down. Sometimes you just have to accept it's not going to be great but it's going to be functional.
BBC Sport pundit Andrew Castle

Murray 2-3 Dolgopolov
Murray is working his way back into the set, taking advantage of his opponent's naivety. Dolgopolov is trying to do too much with some of his shots and the Scot profits by breaking.

Murray 1-3 Dolgopolov
Murray gets onto the scoreboard in the second set.

Murray 0-3 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov has a bouncy style, his mane of hair tossing about as he trots around despatching winners. The Ukrainian is coming up with some lovely shots and he again holds comfortably.

Murray 0-2 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov again carves out a couple of opportunities to break. He cannot convert the first but does win the second after a well-crafted point that sees him claim the point at the net.

Murray 0-1 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov shows some great touch to hold serve, including a drop-shot that hits the line and spins off at a right angle.

First set:

Murray 6-3 Dolgopolov
Despite some unconvincing shots, such as an attempted drop-shot that bounces before it reaches the net, Murray holds serve to take the first set.

Murray 5-3 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov has to go to deuce on his serve but comes through. He's a delicate-looking player but generates a surprising amount of power on some of his shots.

Murray 5-2 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov clearly hasn't read the script - or the earlier prediction of this gamewatch at least - and Murray again has to battle hard to hold serve. The Scot has to save three more break points before holding.

Murray 4-2 Dolgopolov
The ballboys are, let's just say, not as experienced as those at the All England Club and caused several interruptions to proceedings in the opening rubber. And Murray isn't happy when one of them drops a ball behind Dolgopolov while the Ukrainian is serving. After a long discussion involving both players, both team captains and the ballboy concerned, the point is replayed. It doesn't help Murray in the long run, though, as Dolgopolov holds.

Murray 4-1 Dolgopolov
Murray races through his own service game to establish himself firmly in control.

Murray 3-1 Dolgopolov
Murray uses all his experience - after all, he is 19 now - to immediately respond to his own wobble by breaking his opponent. The Ukrainian is skipping around the court and playing some good shots but you get the feeling that once Murray finds his rhythm and gets going, this match won't last long.

Murray 2-1 Dolgopolov
There's an early scare for Murray, who has to save four break points as Dolgopolov has him running all over the court chasing down shots.

Murray 1-1 Dolgopolov
Dolgopolov, who is wearing a white Rambo-style headband, shows he may be no pushover as he wins his opening serve in confident fashion.

Murray 1-0 Dolgopolov
World number 16 Murray gets off to a good start, not dropping a point in his opening service game. The Scot will be expected to win comfortably against his inexperienced 17-year-old opponent, who is ranked down at 352 in the world and who is playing his first Davis Cup tie.

1250 BST: After a marathon wait in the changing room while Greg Rusedski battled past Sergiy Stakhovsky, Andy Murray and Alexandr Dolgopolov come out onto the court. The sun has gone behind the clouds in Odessa as the players knock up.
