Justine Henin-Hardenne is to rest for five weeks and will enter just one tournament to prepare for the US Open, which begins on 28 August.
The 24-year-old French Open champion has pulled out of next week's Acura classic in San Diego.
Henin-Hardenne's next event will be the Rogers Cup in Montreal on 14 August.
Her coach Carlos Rodriguez told her website: "It leaves a week to recover and focus on form. If there are no injuries, she will play the US Open."
After winning in Paris, Henin-Hardenne triumphed at Eastbourne and reached the final at Wimbledon.
She pulled out of Belgium's Fed Cup semi-final against the US but will play in the final against Italy on 16-17 September.
