Amelie Mauresmo eased her nerves with a routine 6-4 6-4 win over American Meghann Shaughnessy in the first round of the French Open on Sunday.
The Frenchwoman has struggled with nerves at her home Grand Slam in the past but she was always in control.
"It's satisfying for a first round even if it was not the match of the century," said Mauresmo.
Dinara Safina saw off fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva to become the first woman into the second round.
The 14th seed opened play on Philippe Chatrier court on Sunday and posted a routine 6-3 7-5 win.
Fourth seed Maria Sharapova will test her foot injury in her first-round match against Mashona Washington later on Sunday.
