Top seed Mariano Puerta comfortably made it through to the second round of the Dutch Open in Amersfoort.
The French Open finalist beat Janco Tipsarevic of Serbia-Montenegro 6-2 6-2 and will play Costa Rican qualifier Juan Antonio Marin in the next round.
Puerta broke his opponent in the opening games of both sets.
Third seed Nicolas Massu of Chile became the first player to reach the third round by beating Jiri Vanek of the Czech Republic 6-4 7-5.
Dutch wildcard Melle van Gemerden will make his first ATP tour quarter-final appearance after upsetting fourth seed Christophe Rochus of Belgium 6-2 7-5.
