LATEST UPDATES FROM FANS, PUNDITS AND OUR REPORTERS...

2039: Murray in running for BBC honour
Ladbrokes make Andy Murray a 16-1 shot to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2005. They have also cut the odds on the teenager winning Wimbledon by the end of 2010 from 8-1 to 7-1. You can also get odds of 50-1 on him winning the tournament next year.

2030: Jimmy Connors, speaking on the BBC on Andy Murray
Andy's game is there. He's got all the shots. He has power, he has finesse, he has a very good first serve. His whole game as an 18-year-old is very mature.

2020: Sir Sean Connery, speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live
Somebody has to get their **** off the ground and help Murray, appoint Mark Petchey (the player's coach) with whatever Petchey recommends.

2018: Simon Tomkins from Swindon, who was on Centre Court during Andy Murray's match
The atmosphere was superb. Murray looks a good player and relaxed on court and he is very promising.

1945: ChristianGrabinski, BBC Five Live messageboards
Andy Murray has the game to become a champion. No doubt about it. It's just his physical fitness I am concerned about, but otherwise a great performance from the boy.

1940: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Andy Murray leaves Centre Court after a dramatic five-set defeat to David Nalbandian.

1908: Fiona Wilson, UK, via email
What is so outstanding about Andrew Murray is not so much the occasional brilliance of his play but his consistently solid competence - amazing achievement ... and we Scots are having the time of our lives ... well done, Andrew!

1837: Harry, Fred and Charlie, via email
We're listening to the BBC coverage from the middle of the Atacama desert in Chile. Come on Andy - the whole of Chile is with you!

1822: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
While Andy Murray is battling away on Centre Court, plenty of fans seem oblivious or have given up trying to grab a view of the match, with the concourse and food stalls packed with people milling around.

The weather has slightly improved from earlier in the day and from the top floor of Centre Court, it is again possible to see in the distance Canary Wharf and the London Eye, which could not be spotted in the cloudier skies early on.

1817: Mark Thomson, via email
Andy Murray is wearing "Fred Perry" kit. Is that an omen?

1725: Another Andy Murray fan after the first set
He can go all the way at Wimbledon if his heart is in it and he is an inspiration to all of us. This boy is the future.

1725: Two Scottish Andy Murray fans on Henman Hill after he won the first set against David Nalbandian
He's doing us all so proud right now.

I think Henman Hill should be renamed Murray Field - no doubt about it..

1625: Scarlett Elworthy, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
The fans are flooding onto Murray Mound now and when the massive screen shows the young Scot walking out on Centre Court the cheers ring out and the flags - Blue & White and Union Jacks - fly high.

The atmosphere is hotting up here, but the temperature is continuing to fall and some people have discovered a new use for one of the most popular items of modern-day Wimbledon memorabilia - the towel - or, rather, a blanket to shield off the chill.

Some tennis-watchers report feeling spots of rain in the air around Court 14.

1620: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Andy Murray strides out on to Centre Court alongside opponent David Nalbandian to huge applause from an expectant crowd.

1615: John Lloyd on BBC Television as Centre Court awaits Andy Murray's entrance
In his last match he was encouraging the crowd to cheer and he will get that sort of support today.

I don't think being the last Brit standing phases him. I think he is prepared for this. This is the start of his career and at the moment it is a fun period for him. You could say this is a one-off for him but I don't think it is - he is special.

This will be a special time for him and win or lose he is going to enjoy it.

1615: Jimmy Connors on BBC Television before Andy Murray's match
He doesn't have any expectations with winning or losing. He's in a very enviable position - you only have one chance and you have to take it. This is the place whre everybody wants to play and to be able to come out here with everybody behind him is fantastic.

1611: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Boris Becker's fans are still active around the grounds. They spot him standing with his back to the crowds on the roof of the press centre and around 30 point their cameras and camera phones at him in the hope he will turn round and give them a wave.

1530: Mary Pierce, defending the Williams sisters over accusations they don't take tennis seriously enough
I think Serena and Venus are really interesting girls. They are doing a lot for women both on and off the court. They are great for young girls in general, to get them out there and play sports and have confidence in themselves.

I think Venus and Serena do have confidence in themselves and they go after what they want and they know what they want. I think those are great qualities to have. To dream and to know that things can become a reality.

1500: Andy Murray, ahead of his Centre Court debut
I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not excited yet. I'm not really thinkng about it too much at the moment.

1455: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
The celebrities in the Royal Box have been introduced to the crowd, with a gushing commentary by veteran commentator John Barrett. Sean Connery inevitably got the loudest cheer, while there were a few boos from non-Chelsea fans for John Terry. The presentation ended with three very British cheers for London's Olympic bid.

1407: Ed King, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
A chill wind is sweeping the All England Club, with many t-shirted fans probably wishing they had brought their fleeces. The BBC's roving reporter Garry Richardson has retreated to the main production office to find a jacket, fearing hypothermia, while many of the TV staff are now regretting their decision to turn up in shorts.

It could, of course, all be part of the gods' plan to make Scotland's Andy Murray feel at home. There's nothing quite like the British summer.

1330: Scarlett Elworthy, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
In amongst all the texting, chatting, eating and drinking that's going on out on the Hill, there are mixed views about how Britain's Andy Murray will fare against Nalbandian later today.

Anne Jenner from Lyme Regis thinks the Scottish Lion can upset the 18th seed - "He can do it, he's a real fighter," she says. But Nic Whyte from London reckons "Murray can take a set, but winning will be just too big an ask at this early stage of his career." Sorry, haven't managed to find a Scot to ask them what they think - yet.

1230: Scarlett Elworthy, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
There's a real lazy Saturday morning feel about Murray Mount right now. The sky is slate-grey dull but Sharapova's clash with Srebotnik is on the big screen and the Russian star has just brightened the day up by strolling into a one-set lead.

1201: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Defending champion Roger Federer is out on Centre Court and warming up with Nicolas Kiefer. The stadium is not even half full, but triple-jumper Jonathan Edwards and Wimbledon legend Billie Jean King have joined Sir Sean Connery as early arrivals in the Royal Box.

1130: Scarlett Elworthy, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Boris Becker turned hundreds of heads as he strolled with friends through Aorangi Terrace. With his sun-blond hair and taupe-coloured linen suit, the former Wimbledon champion cut an incredible dash as he made his way throught he crowd.

But Becker handled the attention like a true pro - for every "Hiya Boris" he returned a polite "good morning" and maintained a dignified silence when a mature fan shrilled "how about dinner!"

1125: Mark Barden, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
There's a stellar sporting line-up in the Royal Box but the biggest name is sshhurely... sorry, surely Sir Sean Connery - he's picked the right day, with fellow Scot Andy Murray's match against David Nalbandian third on Centre Court.

Among the sporting superstars in the Box today are Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent, Chelsea skipper John Terry, Lawrence Dallaglio (how badly he was missed by the Lions), Billie Jean King, Jayne Torvill, Dame Mary Peters, Jonathan Edwards, Colin Jackson and Tessa Sanderson.

1119: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Fans are milling around the concourse and as the jazz band strikes up, I count a dozen people in the queue at the strawberries and cream stand.

1114: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal has departed Wimbledon but not without donating his white 'piratas' (three-quarter length trousers) to the Wimbledon museum.

1042: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Some early tennis to watch for the first arrivals on Centre and Number One Courts this morning. The Wimbledon junior tennis initiative has allowed youngsters from local schools the chance to play in the famous arenas.

Some of the top under-13 players from the LTA's Champions of the Future programme are also in action.

1040: mightyHornets4ever, BBC Five Live messageboards
If Andy Murray can beat the number 14 seed who was in good from why no Nalbandian? I know he has reached the final before but what has his form been like over the past few weeks?

1010: Ian Westbrook, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Exactly a year to the day after Tim Henman carried the Olympic torch around the All England Club, the build-up to the bid to host the 2012 Games is continuing at Wimbledon.

A huge London 2012 flag, signed by a host of celebrities, is currently draped over the steps at the bottom of Henman Hill.

0930: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
There isn't a lot of work going on in the press room this morning as most of the British journalists are glued to the rugby. There isn't a lot of noise either, since the Lions are capitulating to the All Blacks.

0913: Caroline Cheese, BBC Sport at Wimbledon
Yesterday's rain has thankfully cleared and it's a cloudy but warm morning in SW19. Saturday's crowds are in for a treat, with Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick and of course Andy Murray all in action.
