Chela looks nervous at 15-30 but bravely comes into the net and puts away a volley. A missed pass from Murray gives the Argentine match point and he takes it with another volley.

Murray 3-5 Chela
One stunning cross-court backhand winner gives the Melbourne crowd a brief glimpse of Murray's undoubted talent and he holds serve to stay in the match, but Chela now has the chance to wrap things up.

Murray 2-5 Chela
Chela is taken to deuce as Murray finally ups his level with some more consistent hitting from the baseline but the Scot hammers a second-serve return well long. He then puts a makeable backhand into the net and Chela is one game from victory.

Murray 2-4 Chela
Murray holds to 15, finishing off the game with a powerful forehand winner, and maybe the pressure of closing on victory will get to Chela.

Murray 1-4 Chela
Murray earns his third break point of the match but Chela is winning all the big rallies, and does so again with a brave backhand into the corner that pays off.

Murray 1-3 Chela
A slightly more positive effort brings Murray another game but it looks like a last throw of the dice.

Murray gets back from 30-0 down to 30-30 but then makes two mistakes and hands Chela the game. The Argentine pumps his fist as he makes his way to the chair and probably can't believe his luck.

The game looks to be up for Murray - a simple backhand volley goes into the middle of the net on break point and Chela is now in complete command.

Murray 0-1 Chela
Chela powers on but in truth Murray is not making him work at the moment because of the number of unforced errors.

Second set:

Murray 3-6 Chela
The disappointment of the previous game stays with Murray and he hands the set to Chela with a couple more unforced errors.

Murray 3-5 Chela
Murray earns two break points but misses a backhand on the first before a big serve gets Chela out of trouble on the second. When Murray then misses a lob at deuce it provokes a wild reaction and he is warned for racquet abuse.

Murray 3-4 Chela
Murray stays in touch with another hold and his serve at least is improving.

Murray 2-4 Chela
For the first time Chela's form dips but Murray cannot take advantage. At 15-30 up and on the Argentine's second serve he fires a straightforward return long, summing up his day so far.

Murray 2-3 Chela
Murray plays far and away his best game so far, upping his first-serve percentage and finding a couple of aces.

Murray 1-3 Chela
Murray may have got off the mark in the previous game but it does not seem to have heralded a major change of fortune - Chela holds to 15.

The match looks like slipping further away with Murray at 15-40 but he hangs on grimly to stay in touch in the set.

Another ruthless game from Chlea, interspersed with missed backhands from Murray, leaves the Vodafone Arena almost silent. That is until a suspiciously Scottish sounding voice calls on the crowd to get behind 'their man' with some success.

The pattern continues as a barrage of big forehands from Chela home in on the Murray backhand forcing him back into the corner, and ultimately into errors.

Chela wraps up the first set with plenty to spare after 15 unforced errors prove far too costly for Murray.

Murray 1-5 Chela
The crowd is trying desperately to inspire Murray and every winner is greeted with a huge roar but too often they are followed by unforced errors. Two consecutive netted forehands give Chela another break and surely the first set.

Murray 1-4 Chela
Chela is dominating with his huge forehand at the moment, clinically finishing off anything that Murray leaves short.

Murray 1-3 Chela
Murray gets off the mark as Chela misses a couple of attempted passes but the Agrentine remains the more aggressive player, going for winners early in the rallies.

Chela looks very confident and Murray struggles to make any impression as the Argentine holds to love.

Murray opens with a poor attempt at a drop shot and slips to break point down with a double fault. Chela capitalises with a short slice that Murray pushes wide.
