World ranking: 16
Champion (2000 & 2001)
2004: Second round
The memory of an all-conquering Venus Williams, who stormed to consecutive Wimbledon and US Open crowns two years in a row, is fading fast.
Venus' displays at the Grand Slams have been the worst since her debut year in 1997 - and she even reached the US Open final then.
In Melbourne, Venus reached the fourth round before succumbing to Australian favourite Alicia Molik.
Things got worse at Roland Garros, where an indifferent looking Venus crashed out to
15-year-old Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva in the third round.
It was the American's poorest run at the French Open since 2001, when she lost to Barbara Schett in the first round.
Venus went to Paris on the back of her first tournament win in a year at the Istanbul Cup.
But that victory was against world number 39 Nicole Vaidisova and Venus continues to struggle against relatively average opponents.
Venus will hope to recapture her form at Wimbledon, which has been one of her happier hunting grounds.
