Filippo Volandri sneaks into the Wimbledon seeds on the back of a strong year that has seen him become the Italian number one.
The 23-year-old won his first title in St Polten in 2004, and reached two other finals on his way to a ranking of 43 at the end of the season.
He does not exactly have a grass-court pedigree to worry Roger Federer, with one win and three defeats on the surface in his career.
His major impact at Wimbledon so far was his narrow loss to Goran Ivanisevic last year in the Croatian's farewell visit last year.
On clay he is a different prospect, however, and Guillermo Canas, Mariano Puerta, Feliciano Lopez and Sebasiten Grosjean have all been beaten this season.
Volandri had to retire early in this third-round match against Jose Acasuso at the French Open and is unlikely to make up for that disappointment at Wimbledon.
