Teenage favourite Rafael Nadal, seeded fourth, takes on unseeded Argentine Mariano Puerta for the men's title.

Both are left-handed and are capable of hitting aggressive groundstrokes on their favoured clay surface.

Spain's Nadal and Puerta are both seeking their first Grand Slam crown.

If Nadal wins, he will become the first man since Mats Wilander in 1982 to win the French Open on his debut.

Should Puerta take the title an unseeded Argentine will take top honours for the second year running.

Both players are welcomed onto Philippe Chatrier Court - with Nadal wearing his trademark long, white shorts.
