The Slovak was much-hyped as a teenager almost a decade ago but has never managed to break through at the very top level.

However, he reached four ATP Tour finals last year, winning three of then to bump his titles tally up to six.

Hrbaty has reached the last eight at two out of the last three major events, with a first-round exit at the French Open a recent blip.

He has reached at least the quarter-finals of every Grand Slam except Wimbledon, where he has a miserable record.

In eight visits to SW19, he has got past the first match just twice - up to last year, he had won just one out of eight matches on Wimbledon's lawns.

Hrbaty prefers to play on a sounder surface than grass, and the chances are he will be preparing for the American hard-court season sooner than most of his fellow Wimbledon seeds.
