Second seed Andre Agassi crashed out of the US Clay Court Championships in Houston after a quarter-final loss to Sebastien Grosjean.
Agassi, who was aiming for his 60th career title, won the first set but was no match for Grosjean from then on as the Frenchman sealed a 4-6 6-1 6-2 win.
"It was a good first set but then he picked up his level and I couldn't step up to it," said Agassi.
Grosjean faces Nicolas Lapentti after his 6-4 1-6 7-6 win over James Blake.
Meanwhile, top seed Andy Roddick produced an impressive display against Luis Horna to reach the semi-finals.
Roddick, who has won this event twice before, never looked in trouble against the Peruvian eighth seed as he secured a 6-4 6-1 victory.
The American's victory came in just 57 minutes and included 14 aces.
"That's probably the best match I've served this year, so far," said Roddick.
He will now take on Jurgen Melzer of Austria, who beat defending champion Tommy Haas of Germany 2-6 6-2 6-4.
Haas has made only one final since winning in Houston last year.
