The sixth seed won 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 against the Argentine, who had earlier beaten third seed Juan Ignacio Chela.
Spain's Alberto Martin beat Argentine seventh seed Mariano Zabaleta 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 to book his place in the last four.
Brazil's Ricardo Mello saw off Spain's Santiago Ventura 7-5 6-1 and Australian Peter Luczak beat Argentine Edgardo Massa 1-6 7-5 6-1.
Five of the eight second-round matches had to be played on Thursday because rain suspended play on Wednesday.
Massa upset eighth seed Albert Costa 6-7 (3-7) 6-1 7-6 (9-7) before falling to Luczak in the quarter-finals.
Luczak had earlier beaten Brazil's Andre Sa 3-6 6-3 6-0 and Nadal had swept past fellow Spaniard Alex Calatrava 6-3 6-3.
Mello went into his quarter-final fresh after his second-round opponent, Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello, retired while losing 3-6 0-1.
