All the action as Lleyton Hewitt beats Andy Roddick in the Australian Open semi-final.


Fourth set:

Hewitt 6-1 Roddick
Hewitt makes no mistake, securing a place in the Australian Open final for the first time when Roddick puts a return long.

Hewitt 5-1 Roddick
Roddick nets a simple volley to fall 15-40 down and Hewitt all but seals the match by converting the second - and lets out a huge yell.

Hewitt 4-1 Roddick
A stunning backhand return gives Roddick break point but he fires a forehand long and maybe lets his last chance slip away.

Hewitt 3-1 Roddick
At 30-30 the end looks imminent for Roddick but he digs deep to find his 31st ace and a backhand winner keeps his hopes alive.

Hewitt 3-0 Roddick
Hewitt has a fierce look in his eyes as he looks to his friends and family in the stands, and he is dominating from the baseline now against a below-par Roddick who may be struggling with an injury.

Hewitt 2-0 Roddick
Hewitt takes charge of the match with a break as a disheartened looking Roddick capitulates with a double fault.

Hewitt 1-0 Roddick
After an extraordinarily long toilet break Roddick returns to the court, but it does not concern Hewitt who plays possibly his best game of the match with a couple of spectacular forehand winners.


Third set:

Hewitt 7-6 (7-4) Roddick
Roddick gets the early break and goes 3-1 up but then makes three poor errors to hand the initiative back to Hewitt. At 5-4 and with two serves to come Hewitt makes no mistake, sealing the set with a fizzing backhand pass.

Hewitt 6-6 Roddick
A poor return game from Roddick allows Hewitt to gain momentum with a love game going into the crucial tie-break.

Hewitt 5-6 Roddick
The service momentum is interrupted by a sublime Hewitt backhand down the line and when Roddick sends a forehand long the crowd sense a break, but the American finds a forehand pass to take the game.

Hewitt 5-5 Roddick
Hewitt is almost matching Roddick for service power at the moment and he hammers down two aces on his way to a comfortable hold.

Hewitt 4-5 Roddick
Roddick takes his first game in four with some better serving but he still looks to be struggling compared to the livewire Hewitt.

Hewitt 4-4 Roddick
There is danger for Hewitt at 30-30 but a couple of loose Roddick groundstrokes see the Aussie level.

Hewitt 3-4 Roddick
The second running forehand winner of the match from Hewitt is followed by a Roddick double fault, and the American repeats the error to hand Hewitt the break. Roddick is unhappy that the crowd is calling out during his serve.

Hewitt 2-4 Roddick
As in the previous set the early games are flying by as the players seem in a rush to get to the decisive moment. Hewitt holds to love.

Hewitt 1-4 Roddick
Roddick does nothing to lighten the mood of the crowd with a quick-fire love game and this set is racing away from Hewitt, who may need another five-set marathon if he is to make the final.

Hewitt 1-3 Roddick
Hewitt gets off the mark by holding to 15 but the atmosphere has fallen flat for the moment as Roddick looks in charge of the set.

Hewitt 0-3 Roddick
Another terrible line calls goes against Hewitt, sparking boos from the crowd, and Roddick takes advantage with an ace to win the game.

Hewitt 0-2 Roddick
Hewitt's game falls flat after the tie-break and he gives up two break points. Roddick's fallibility at the net comes back to haunt him as he puts a simple volley wide, but the American is given the break with a Hewitt error.

Hewitt 0-1 Roddick
Roddick stops the rot with a good service game closed out with a huge smash.


Second set:

Hewitt 7-6 (7-3) Roddick
Two superb returns and two Roddick errors help Hewitt to a 5-3 lead and an ace gives him three set points. A backhand error from Roddick hands the Aussie the set and Hewitt lets out a yell before the trademark fist pumping.

Hewitt 6-6 Roddick
Roddick is actually made to play two rallies but does so successfully and adds two aces for another love game.

Hewitt 6-5 Roddick
A tie-break looks inevitable as Hewitt does a good impression of Roddick with two aces in a love game.

Hewitt 5-5 Roddick
If Roddick is feeling any pressure he hides it well with another love service game.

Hewitt 5-4 Roddick
A quick game goes to Hewitt and the Aussie definitely has the upper hand at the moment. Roddick must hold to keep the set alive.

Hewitt 4-4 Roddick
Roddick is gamely coming to the net at least once a game without ever looking totally comfortable but his serve is holding firm. A second-serve ace takes him to 19 so far and he recovers from 15-30.

Hewitt 4-3 Roddick
Hewitt looks at his most confident so far as he fires a forehand winner followed by a backhand pass and yells "C'mon!" for the first time in the match. Always a bad sign for his opponents.

Hewitt 3-3 Roddick
Hewitt chases down a lob volley from Roddick and hits a winning forehand pass on the turn that gets the crowd in the Rod Laver Arena on their feet. A break looks on the cards at deuce but Roddick finds a 131mph second-serve ace and saves an eighth break point of the match before holding.

Hewitt 3-2 Roddick
A tight game that includes two superb Roddick backhand winners eventually goes to Hewitt and prompts the first first-pump of the night.

Hewitt 2-2 Roddick
Hewitt plays the shot of the match so far with a running forehand pass down the line and fights his way to deuce from 40-15 down. Two Roddick forehands see off the danger.

Hewitt 2-1 Roddick
Hewitt moves ahead again, taking control of the baseline rallies and moving Roddick around, but he needs to make some headway on the American's serve.

Hewitt 1-1 Roddick
Roddick draws gasps from the crowd as he hits four successive aces in less than a minute.

Hewitt 1-0 Roddick
Hewitt opens the second set with a love game, closed out with an ace, that gets the crowd going.


First set:

Hewitt 3-6 Roddick
The game opens with a 27-stroke rally that Roddick loses with a forehand error and he quickly goes 15-40 down. Two aces follow before another poor line call sees Hewitt scream at the line judge "Watch the line, mate!" The Aussie is further frustrated as Roddick aces his way out of three more break points and finds another to take the set.

Hewitt 3-5 Roddick
Hewitt has his most comfortable service game to date to force Roddick to serve out for the set.

Hewitt 2-5 Roddick
Roddick is made to work a little harder on serve as Hewitt manages to return and then dictates from the baseline. The American decides to serve and volley at 15-30 to disastrous effect but reverts to his natural game and hits his way out of trouble with the forehand.

Hewitt 2-4 Roddick
Two double faults and a woeful backhand put Hewitt under pressure but he gets lucky with a net-cord and hangs on.

Hewitt 1-4 Roddick
One blistering forehand winner from Hewitt is applauded by Roddick, who immediately quietens the crowd with a 141mph ace and a 144mph winner, and the American looks confident.

Hewitt 1-3 Roddick
Hewitt gets off the mark with a better service game as Roddick misses with three of his returns.

Hewitt 0-3 Roddick
In contrast to Hewitt's last game, Roddick is able to race through his service game to love with some huge deliveries.

Hewitt 0-2 Roddick
Hewitt looks in trouble when he loses two lengthy rallies to go 15-40 down but he digs himself out of a hole with his much-improved serve. The Aussie serves an ace on second serve to save a third break point but the Roddick forehand is dominating and he eventually breaks with the help of a dubious line call.

Hewitt 0-1 Roddick
The fiercely partisan nature of the crowd is made obvious by an impromptu rendition of the Australian national anthem. The match has a Davis Cup feel but Roddick looks confident as he holds serve in the opening game.
