Andy Murray has missed out on a wild card for the US Open at Flushing Meadows later this month.
The 18-year-old Briton now looks set to try his luck in the qualifying tournament which begins next Tuesday.
Among the high-profile recipients were Americans James Blake and Jan-Michael Gambill and former US Open runner-up Mark Philippoussis.
Murray was beaten by Marat Safin in his first Masters Series event in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
He received a wild card into the tournament after winning two Challenger titles in the last month, and admitted it was a major step up.
"I think it takes a while to get the respect because, obviously, I'm still not inside the top 100," said the Scot.
"Until you start beating some of the best players, you don't get the respect of the top guys."
