Clijsters won the Wimbledon warm-up at Eastbourne
|
Kim Clijsters took just 50 minutes to end the hopes of British number seven Katie O'Brien in the first round of Wimbledon with a 6-2 6-3 demolition.
The Belgian 15th seed showed no signs of fatigue from her title-winning performance at Eastbourne on Saturday, cruising to the opening set.
The 19-year-old O'Brien showed some resolve in the second, producing an array of forehand winners at 2-2.
But Clijsters' class told, she broke in the fifth and served out the match.
The 22-year-old Belgian, who reached the semi-finals in 2003, admitted she was tested by O'Brien.
"I did not know who she was until I saw her on court," said Clijsters. "But she doesn't give you a lot of rhythm.
"I still feel I've got a lot of improvement to make. My groundstrokes are not as I'd like them to be and my return can get better.
"There are some very good patches in my matches but I still need to be more consistent."
