Safina is still seeking her first win at Wimbledon, surprising given she reached the junior final in 2001.
Since joining the professional tour, the Russian has impressed in patches but is yet to make a big breakthrough.
In fact, such is her inconsistency, that big brother Marat publicly criticised her earlier this year - despite his own reputation for allowing his mind to wander.
However, 19-year-old Safina has managed to collect two titles this year, doubling her total.
In February, she stunned home favourite Amelie Mauresmo in the final to win the Paris Indoors and showed her all-court skills by winning the clay event in Prague ahead of the French Open.
Her Grand Slam form, even away from Wimbledon, is disappointing.
Her best came in 2003 at the US Open when she reached the fourth round but other than that, her career record is littered with first and second round exits.
