Asagoe may be yet to pick up a WTA title but after a best-ever season in 2004, she is vying with Ai Sugiyama for the Japanese number one spot.

Last year's highlight was a first ever Grand Slam quarter-final at the US Open - only the third Japanese woman to reach that stage in the Open era.
The 28-year-old has continued that progress this season.
She began the year brilliantly by reaching the final in Auckland, losing in three sets to Katarina Srebotnik.
And in February, she delighted the home crowd by reaching the semi-finals in Tokyo, losing only to world number two Maria Sharapova.
Two months later, she climbed to the heady heights of 21st in the rankings - her best ever - and briefly usurped Sugiyama as Japan's number one woman.
