Fifth seed Vera Zvonareva marched into round two of the Hastings International in Eastbourne with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Czech player Nicole Vaidisova.

The Russian dealt better with windy conditions to progress at the annual warm-up event for Wimbledon.

And Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy crushed Amanda Janes - one of two British wildcards - 6-1 6-1 in just 63 minutes.

Janes, the daughter of 1961 Wimbledon finalist Christine Truman, hit seven double faults in a patchy performance.
