Junior world number one Gael Monfils reached the quarter-finals of the Open de Moselle on his ATP debut.
Monfils, who has won three junior Grand Slams in 2004, beat fellow Frenchman Olivier Patience 6-4 6-4 to follow up his opening win over Ivan Ljubicic.
Monfils will now face Richard Gasquet, another 18-year-old Frenchman, in a match sure to please the home crowd.
Elsewhere on Thursday, veteran Spaniard Alex Corretja battled past France's Gregory Carraz 4-6 7-5 (7-5) 6-4.
